Outer Terror

Outer Terror was developed by Salt & Pixel and published by VoxPop Games. On the project I wore almost every hat someone could in game development. I helped design and produce the game, on top of being the games main tester. I tracked hundreds of bugs and worked closely with Salt & Pixel in order to fix them. The biggest role I played on the game was in it’s promotion. I created trailers, tutorials, short form micro-content, and static imagery to advertise the game leading up to and after its release.

To build up hype for the release of Outer Terror, I reached out to a laundry list of content creators asking if they’d play it on stream. I had to communicate what deliverables we needed to each creator, in addition to providing them with branding for their stream. We were able to get a bunch of solid clips which I edited and posted on our YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reals, and TikTok.

In addition to the video work I did for the project, I also had a hand in a bunch of the static imagery we used to show off the game. Each level of the game’s story is represented as an issue of a comic book in game. Using static imagery given to me, I used Photoshop and Illustrator to create Tales of the Crypt inspired comic book covers. Using the same imagery I also created comic book page layouts which I often used in trailers.

For almost every game that we published at VoxPop, I created a “How To” video series. These were a series of tutorial videos that taught players how to play the game in addition to tips & tricks. I scripted, recorded, and edited each of these videos.

Another major contribution I made to Outer Terror was learning Construct3 in order to create the Chinese localized version of the game. Due to the original game using a sprite font for its text, I had to re-create the dialogue system from the ground up. My new dialogue system allowed for new languages to be added with ease, which we followed up by localizing the game for French, Italian, German, and Spanish. These ports allowed us to sell the game in new markets, which led to more sales.
